Well, the party is over, and what a party it was!  600 bloggers enrolled for the GYB Party hop.

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t get to visit anywhere near the 600 blogs.  I started with those with the least followers, and then my life was interrupted by something much more important.  What could be more important than visiting blogs – well, our DD is expecting, due late May, but was put on bedrest for the duration starting about 3 weeks ago.  So her MIL and I both thought it best if we could somehow spend as much time here as possible so she could well and truly relax and so could her hubby.  So that’s where I am, not at home, not quilting, not being lazy, but here in Alberta with the kids!

Anyway, the party of course didn’t stop because I wasn’t there and many wonderful people visited this blog as a result.  Thank heaven for WiFi and I could keep up with the comments.  A big thank-you and welcome to all who visited, your kind words and enthusiasm were so very appreciated.

Nakusp area

In between our ferry rides, we stayed at Nakusp, a little town right on the Arrow Lakes.

It’s a pretty little town with two hot springs pools nearby.

We wandered through their downtown area, and discovered a lake-side walk, with gardens:

A perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine and the views.  The lake was so calm it was like glass, and I commented it would be nice to take a canoe out there, but Grizz said ‘not a good plan’ as apparently the lake can turn ugly in a very short time.  Not that we have a canoe any more!!

We made a trip out to one of the hot springs and lazed in the warm water for a while:

On our last evening, we were entertained at Music in the Park.  Steve Palmer was the entertainer, a singer from Edmonton.  He was advertised as singing Country Roots, and he truly did take us back to some of our roots in singing Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Roger Williams, and lots of Canadian artists like Ian Tyson, Celine Dion, Anne Murray, Irish Rovers, as well as a few of his own songs, one titled Come On In which was used for opening of one of the CBC Radio Vinyl Café programs.

Steve will be traveling to the Maritimes this fall with stops in Springhill (Anne Murray’s home town) and Antigonish (our DDIL-K’s home town) in NS , so if any of you are out that way……

More Than a Social Network

Facebook is a source for learning

Most mornings, I start my day by getting in touch with the world via my computer.  Emails first, to make sure there’s nothing urgent that will need my attention.   Once I’ve dealt with all of those, I head on over to Facebook – again to touch bases with family and friends, many of whom I rarely see.  It really is a great place to keep up with happenings, who’s on vacation, who’s having children and grandchildren, who’s changing jobs or retiring.

But it’s the education I get there that fascinates me.

Like – 20 ways to use Coke (for other than drinking and upsetting your stomach):

1. Removes grease stains from clothing and fabric
2. Removes rust; methods include using fabric dipped in Coke, a sponge or even aluminum foil. Also loosens rusty bolts
3. Removes blood stains from clothing and fabric.
4. Cleans oil stains from a garage floor; let the stain soak, hose off.
5. Kills slugs and snails; the acids kills them.
6. Cleans burnt pans; let the pan soak in the Coke, then rinse.
7. Descales a kettle (same method as with burnt pans)
8. Cleans car battery terminals by pouring a small amount of Coke over each one.
9. Cleans your engine; Coke distributors have been using this technique for decades.
10. Makes pennies shine; soaking old pennies in Coke will remove the tarnish.
11. Cleans tile grout; pour onto kitchen floor, leave for a few minutes, wipe up.
12. Dissolves a tooth; Use a sealed container…takes a while but it does work.
13. Removes gum from hair; dip into a small bowl of Coke, leave a few minutes. Gum will wipe off.
14. Removes stains from vitreous china.
15. Got a dirty pool? Adding two 2-liter bottles of Coke clears up rust.
16. You can remove (or fade) dye from hair by pouring diet Coke over it.
17. Remove marker stains from carpet. Applying Coke, scrubbing and then clean with soapy water will remove marker stains.
18. Cleans a toilet; pour around bowl, leave for a while, flush clean.
19. Coke and aluminum foil will bring Chrome to a high shine.
20. Strips paint off metal furniture. Soak a towel in Coke and lay it on the paint surface.

Recipes that will for sure blow your diet:

A SLICE OF HEAVEN CAKE!
1 package devil's food chocolate cake or german choc. cake mix
1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 jar caramel topping
1 8oz tub cool whip
4-5 snickers bar (my preference) you can use skor, heathbar, or mini reeses
Bake the cake according to directions in 9x13 inch pan. Cool for 5 minutes, using the handle of a wooden spoon poke holes into cake, then let cake cool for abit about an 1/2 hour til warm. Slowly pour sweetened milk over cake, letting it soak into holes, then drizzle caramel over the cake.
Let cake cool completely (you may refrigerate it to cool faster just cover well). Top cake with cool whip, decorate with candy & drizzle with caramel!!

Health tips for a longer life:

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

April Start–and Some Progress

Following up with my New Year commitment (I refuse to call it a resolution), and after a bit of a hiatus, I’m back on track with New Beginnings – a Start a Month.

I’m waiting on the arrival of one more fabric to move forward with this, but that should happen in the next few days.

In the meantime, I’ve completed a project, at the request of DD for her expected little one:

Grizz is one week post knee surgery today, and getting around very, very well.  We think he’s even better at this point than he was at the same point after the last surgery.  Very, very encouraging!

Changes

My sewing space has seen a little bit of transformation

The storage base is completed and in place underneath the trunk/pressing table. BTW, on the sewing machine you can see the last of this batch of diapers being made for wee Eli expected in the fall.

And then, I found some bins that fit comfortably in the open space:

Then, the cupboard which previously held fabric got some organization to hold project and scrap bins, and a few extras:

Baby sewing has continued almost non-stop, the latest project is bunting bags (sleep-sacks) for the fall/winter.  Two different sizes – one size for LV who is already 7 weeks, and one for Eli.  This is the first one, just needs elastic in the hem.

After these, a quilt (at last!), some bibs, and car seat cozies – oh, and finish up the diaper bag.

And speaking of changes and transformation – here’s LV at 6 weeks.  As much as she’s growing, some of her clothes are going to be a while before she  gets out of them:

Apparently LV is going through some kind of change, and doesn’t want to sleep as much as Mama and Papa would like, and then gets cranky because she’s tired.  Hoping this stage is brief for their sake, they’re getting very, very tired!

Our trailer is in for servicing today, getting ready to hit the road next week.  Grizz’ knee is well-healed and we’re comfortable that he won’t do any damage to it, so our first trip will be to Sisters, OR to take in the big quilt show and then possibly up to Alberta to see the kids!  (Squeal of excitement).
