My Qualifications for Meanest Mom of the Year Award.
I have a thing for organization. I like to plan schedules, and chore charts, and sticker posters, and all that jazz. Summer vacation is my Military Mom Mode, and I run our little ship like we're in the navy.
We have a daily schedule, a weekly schedule, a color-coordinated chore calendar corresponding to the weekly chore teams, and progress sticker charts, whereupon they are awarded stickers according to attitude, work ethic, workmanship, and general cooperation and teamwork.
Sounds brutal, doesn't it?
Only one problem....
My kids actually LIKE IT!
The whole purpose for this kind of battle plan was
...uhhhh....
.....to give my kids a sense of responsibility and ownership and pride in their efforts to create a happy, harmonious household.
Sophie is the only one that seems to be dragging her feet a little bit, but that's to be expected given her age and general lack of participation thus far in her life. We felt strongly that it was time to nip that little problem in the bud, so Sophie is assigned to work with a different sister each week to complete her chores. The sticker incentive seems to be working so far, with the concept of getting an extra special treat each time she fills up one of the big letters on her poster with stickers.
We'll see how long this lasts.... in the meanwhile, happy summer to you all, and let me know how the battle goes with your kids! What do you to maintain order and discipline and still make time for fun for the next two and a half months?

One thing I have learned from my special needs boy is that routine and schedules rock!! Both my boys are awesome when we stick to a routine, as soon as we stop... life gets really hard for all of us!
I can't wait to see how it goes! I love schedule - we are NOT scheduled right now, which is why it is a good thing that my boys go BACK to school on Monday! Happy Summer!
I totally love stuff like that. In fact, my parent's are out of town for two weeks so I'm "taking care" of the house and I had my mom leave me a daily list of what I'm supposed to do---the same way she did when I was 15 instead of 25. It's great:)
we have some similar schedule happening (tomorrow is library day!!!) but the problem is... my kids aren't as happy about it as I'd hoped...
we do it every summer, they should get used to it right? ugh - I know - in 20 years they'll appreciate it... if I live that long :)
I love the daily activity: library, field trip, etc....! We have structured that in the evenings but not during the day...I might fix that tomorrow!!! I love all of the wonderful ideas!
Wow--I can't believe how organized you are. I'm sure your girls are like you: they like a schedule!
I love to be organized, but so far this summer I need to be better at it. Like you, I love lists and charts, check-boxes and sticker charts to show progress. I love your weekly schedule (Mon-library day, Wed-arts/crafts day...) What a great idea! I think I am going to try something like that too. :) Hope you have a fun summer!!
So when are you coming to my house to do a schedule for my kids... next field trip day maybe?! :)
YOU ROCK MY WORLD!!
We took a trip to the booksore today to buy workbooks. I have a similar schedule, which helps protect my summer sanity!
Oh Sue, you're such an inspiration! I have been a very BAD mother about teaching my kids to work. Very bad. They clean their rooms and tidy off and set the table and pick up thier toys and books, but they don't do any of the real cleaning. This very day we are having an FHE (we're not regular Monday FHE-ers, as Greg often works late on Mon.) part of which will be about new chores for the kids. I'm excited. We have another week before summer break so I want them to get the idea now. Thanks for some good tips!
