It's all Greek to Me...

I wish I could say that I took this picture, myself, in person and on location.

Unfortunately, THIS is the closest I'll ever get.

People...... I've done some crazy stuff with costumes in my time.

But dancing frogs in togas, tutus and hula hoop lily pads?

I ask you....

Seriously, when the costume director from Phoenix High School (that's Phoenix, Oregon, not Arizona -- no kidding!) approached me with this project, I thought it was the most obscure thing I had ever heard of. And I was right. I wasn't even sure I wanted any credits in the playbill.

And then I went to rehearsal.

Let me just say, I was blown away. It's silly, it's goofy, it's satrical and entertaining -- and the kids at this school are TALENTED!! They sing, they dance, they act ... and they carry on like they're having the time of their lives. I am really looking forward to their performance next week, and in the meantime, I'm sure Roy would love to have his living room back. Right now, it's covered up with bed sheets that will become togas before the end of the day if it kills me.

In the meantime, "Annie" is over and done. Sara and Emma had a wonderful experience singing and dancing on stage for the first time, and we were very impressed with the overall performance. It was quite a feat for our little community -- Central Point is a quiet, country suburb to Medford, which is just north of Ashland (Shakespeare Land!), so theater is thick around here, but it never seemed to catch hold all the way up here in the sticks. I think this show may have woken up the neighbors to some cultural diversity, once and for all!

The girls back stage getting ready to go on --
Sara and friends..... and Emma as an Orphan

The plays look fun:) I never had the guts to do them, but I definitely enjoy going to them!

Wow! That does sound obscure! But definitely more fun than GYPSY, which was the muscial at North my freshman year! yuck!
I think it's so cool that your girls are so involved with theater! I wish there had been those kinds of opportunities around here when I was their age!

Oh yeah? Well *I* wrote a lot of blog posts, so there. :) I'm teasing of course. You are one of the crazy-busiest people I "know," but it's obvious you have the talent for it.

Some day I'll go to Greece and all over Europe and send postcards! Or better yet, I'll take you with me!

Or would you rather go to Australia? I've always wanted to go Australia.

Frogs sounds rather interesting. What is the main point? Is there a point? Or is it just entertaining and fun? It seems interesting.

P.S. I didn't even know there existed a Phoenix, Oregon. Interesting.

P.P.S. Congratulations to Sara and Emma on their first ever stage production! How exciting!

From what I understand, this play is a social commentary on popularity and, more specifically, who is the best playwright on the planet. By the end of the play, all the social climbers and wannabes turn into frogs.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, exactly. Aristophanes, who wrote the original satire back in 400-and-something BC, must have picked the most socially unacceptable animal as his target, making the outcome as ironic as possible. Personally, I think frogs get a bad rep all the way around. I mean, even Prince Charming had his moment in the pond!

I can't believe you took time for that bit of thoughtfulness I got in the mail yesterday! Good luck with your togas - I'll be waiting for pics.

Your girls are so cute--I'm glad they had a great time. I always thought that during the Millenium you would be able to travel anywhere you wanted--but people keep saying we are going to be too busy to travel--isn't there work in Greece that I could do?

What fun Sue! Loved these pics of the girls. You are so amazing at what you do. I'm sure you'll make the best frog togas ever!

What a funny play! That's so cool that you are involved in so many interesting things.

The girls look great. I'll bet that was a great experience. And not the last, either!
