So far, it's just been a few trips around the temple parking lot. (less than 10 miles an hour, no less) What safer place to practice, right? And she only went over the curb twice and didn't hit a single tree or light post!
But TODAY.....
Sara drove home from the Library!
One-point-three miles, past the Police Station (Sara: one of the scariest parts--I had to back up with 2 police officers watching!), past the elementary school, through several four-way stops, past a pedestrian that couldn't decide if she really wanted to cross the street or not, a few bicyclists....and did I mention real cars? Moving ones and Parked, and NOT A SINGLE DENT!!!
I'm going to let her tell you in her own words how this feels.....
I, Sara The Magnificent, am now taking over. I was eating lunch, and I guess Mom was too excited to wait. Anyway--I was most scared around parked cars and other traffic. I went halfway into the other lane just to avoid one immobile, parked car. Yea. I have that much self-confidence. And the people in moving vehicles who were following me probably thought they were following a drunk lunatic! I was trying to figure out where the weird little yellow things called lines you are supposed to follow fit in the view of the front window, so I kept turning and swerving in my lane. At least it was IN MY LANE, people!
But I like going 25 miles an hour-it's POWERFUL! (If you actually pay attention to where you're going and don't crash, that is:) I LIKE IT!!!!!!
I just have to get used to it first.
Oh! Before I sign off, there's one more thing I wanted to share: I WAS IN MY FIRST PLAY!!!!!!! AND I GOT TO SPEAK LINES!!!!!!!!!!!
About a month ago, Crater performed a 10 Minute Play Cabaret with South High. A play I wrote was in it, and I PERFORMED in one called Happy Birthday? It's about Jack (played by me) and Carl (played by Adam Brown). Jack is trying to take Carl to his birthday surprise. Carl doesn't like Jack's surprises, plus it's below 10 degrees in a back street in a big city. Jack is optimistic, and keeps trying to get Carl going. At one point, Carl reveals that his dream was to be on Broadway, with his "name up in lights". At the end of the play, the surprise that Jack has been trying to show Carl is a Carls, Jr. sign. ....Wait a minute...get it? Carl's name up in lights? Got it? Funny, isn't it?
Here is a picture closing night after the performance with Adam Crum. (He's holding a candy bar, by the way.)
I LOVED my dress! It was a light cotton one, and after I took the mucho heavy coat off, I felt like I could fly. I wore the coat buttoned up, and even in ten minutes I was boiling on stage. My shoes-oooohhh!-made noises when I walked on stage! You know the noise high heels make? I wasn't wearing high heels, but it made the same noise. My hat didn't exactly fit, but it was so cool! Anyway, adios amigos!

Cute cute girl!
Congrats! I remember those days...
Congratulations!!!!!! smile Danette
This entire concept terrifies me. I'll have a kid with a learner's permit in just over a year. I think I'll need Xanax to cope.
Congratulations Sara!
Congratulations to Sara...How fun (and scary) for Mom!!
Wow! One point three miles!! That's like half way across the country. At least when it's your first time on the streets! Congratulations. And on the play, too!
Ohmygosh! Just when we thought the world was safe for democracy, Sara gets a Drivers License! You go, girl! This is a significant rite of passage, not to mention that when your parents finally let you take the car on your own, you will be a big help to your Mom especially. Don't run into a police car; it makes them mad.
Congrats on the play as well, both the writing and the performing. Lots of love from gramma and granpa; we're proud of you.
Happy driving Sara! And great job on the play! I can't believe you are just so grown up!
