Summer Fun

There comes a time in the life of every mother, when sadly, while you aren't looking, your children grow up. All our girls are Amazons, thanks to a genetic misfortune, but Sophie decided to sprout this summer. In fact, here she is having her last sleep in her toddler bed, and I shed not a few tears when we had to sell it on Craig's list. (Have you seen this website? We couldn't believe it -- we sold this bed in less than four hours!)
And now, Sophie has graduated into ...
A BIG GIRL'S BED!
This beautiful piece of furniture was hand-crafted by Grandpa Wasden, Master Craftsman, a few years ago for Sara and Anne. They, of course, have outgrown it, and have moved on to bigger & longer beds, but it's just the right size for Sophie and Emma.
This was one hand-me-down they didn't mind getting!
Meanwhile, Sophie has turned into a real, honest to goodness, full-fledged little girl. She loves to dress up, and most recently, her sisters have taught her to curtsy.

So cute. Sometimes I can't stand it.

We celebrated the month of August with our very own Teddy Bear Picnic.
(How come August doesn't have any national holidays, anyway?)
The most fun has been swimming lessons. All four girls have been getting one-on-one personal tutelage in the water, and at the end of the day, we can't get Sophie out! Her personal trainer, Alex, is her hero. She loves to "Jump to Alex!"

This really has been a full and hectic summer, but we have managed to fit in a few fun weekends. Roy and I spent a weekend at the coast in Brookings, OR for our belated anniversary (it was awesome! First time in 15 years without kids!) and today we're headed up to Lost Creek Lake for some family camping time. Stay tuned to find out how that goes...
